Justin Harper taken third overall by Idaho
BOISE, Idaho, November 2, 2012 – The 2012 NBA Development League was held tonight, and the Idaho Stampede selected seven players in the eight-round draft, beginning with Justin Harper (6-9, 225, Richmond, b. 8/30/89) as the team’s first pick and third overall selection in the draft.

“The Stampede and Trail Blazers are saturating this organization with character,” Head Coach Mike Peck said. “We will work hard, play hard and do things together.” Ten players were added to the training camp roster of the Idaho Stampede, the club announced today.

Harper was an All-Atlantic 10 First Team member as a senior at Richmond, where Harper played from 2007-11. Harper was selected 32nd overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2011 NBA Draft and his rights were then traded to the Orlando Magic. During the 2011 NBA lockout, Harper played professionally in France before coming back to the States and playing with the Magic during the 2011-12 season. In 14 games with Orlando, Harper averaged 1.4 points and 0.9 rebounds in 6.0 minutes per game.

Harper participated in training camp for the Magic before the start of the 2012-13 season.

Mutombo is the nephew of former NBA great Dikembe Mutombo.

Stampede training camp is scheduled to start November 12 in advance of the team’s first game on November 28 at Los Angeles. The Stampede open up the home slate on December 7 vs. Austin at 7 p.m. for a special night, Heroes at the Hardwood presented by Pioneer Federal Credit Union. The team will honor and celebrate active duty and veteran military personnel and their families.
