NBA D-League Select Defeat Japan In Second Scrimmage

The NBA D-League Select defeated the Japanese National Team, 92-64 †in a scrimmage this morning at the 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports on the campus of the University of Nevada Ė Las Vegas. †

Jasper Johnson, mostly recently an Albuquerque Thunderbird, scored 15 points and Othyus Jeffers, of the Iowa Energy, finished with 14 points en route to the 28-point win.† †

The Japanese National Team got off to a quick start, outscoring the NBA D-League select 8-2 in the opening two minutes of the game before the NBA D-Leaguers got in the groove and tied the score at eight.† Jasper Johnson scored a quarter-high eight points for the NBA D-Leaguers before his squad finished up the period up 27-16. †

The Japanese National Team kept it close in the second quarter, with the Select Teamís lead hovering around 10 points for much of the period.† The second half was punctuated with a Coleman Collins two-handed and-one dunk down the middle of the paint.† At the end of two, the NBA D-League was up 48-36.† †

In the second half The NBA D-League broke opened up a larger lead, going up by 20 points with six minutes to play in the third period and never looking back.† With two minutes left the fourth, the Select team was up by 27, 87-60 before finishing out the contest.† †

Kosuke Takeuchi had a game-high 17 points for the Japanese National Team, while Takumi Ishidaki paced the team with 11 in the loss.† †

The NBA D-League Select team, that defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves yesterday in the teamís first NBA Summer League game, returns to action tomorrow to take on Tyreke Evans and the Sacramento Kings at 8:30 p.m. ET.†
