BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Los Angeles D-Fenders were topped by the Bakersfield Jam despite a late comeback attempt, falling 111-98 at Dignity Health Event Center on Sunday evening.

The D-Fenders (15-20) fell behind 31-22 after the first quarter and trailed 57-43 at the half, allowing the Jam (24-11) to shoot 51.2 percent from the floor (51.9 percent for the game) while knocking down just 39.5 percent of their shots (46.8 FG percent for the game). After a slow start to the third quarter, the D-Fenders fell behind by as many as 26 points in the frame and found themselves down 19 heading into the fourth. Despite outscoring the Jam 28-16 to start the final quarter and getting within five points with less than two minutes remaining, the D-Fenders couldn’t complete the road comeback.

Morris Almond scored a team-high 24 points (10-14 FG), Elijah Millsap dropped in 21 points to go along with nine rebounds and eight assists, and Gary Flowers contributed 19 points and six rebounds for Los Angeles. Lazar Hayward also had 16 points for the D-Fenders, who saw a brief two-game winning streak snapped.

Bakersfield’s entire starting lineup scored in double-figures, led by Atlanta Hawks assignee Mike Scott (27 points, 10 rebounds) and Jerel McNeal (27 points, 8 assists, 5 steals). Damion James pitched in 17 points and 13 rebounds, Renaldo Major finished with 14 points, and Adam Koch totaled 11 points, rounding out the Jam in double-digits.
