Austin, TX Dec. 15, 2010 – Despite a new season best for Trey Johnson, the Toros defeated the Bakersfield Jam 103-99, in a nail bitter Wednesday night at Cedar Park Center. Carldell “Squeaky” Johnson led the Toros charge with 20 points and five assists. A crowd of nearly 2000 was on hand to witness a game that saw 14 lead changes and 10 tied scores.

The Toros started the game with Lance Thomas scoring first, but the team spent the remainder of the first half trailing the Jam. The Jam’s Trey Johnson started strong, scoring 12 points in the first quarter. The Toros stayed close by shooting 70 percent in the first half beyond the arch. Garrett Williamson brought the Toros to a 54-54 tie at the end of the second quarter with a half-court shot just before the buzzer sounded.

Both teams played tough defense down the stretch, combining to force a total of 56 turnovers throughout the game. The Jam out rebounded the Toros 44 to 31 and scored 22 points off second chance opportunities. The Jam was led by the D-League player of the week Trey Johnson, who led all scorers with 43 points and recorded a double with 11 rebounds. Despite Johnson’s effort, the Toros hung close thanks in part to the play off the bench contributing 38 points to the Toros total effort. Kevin Palmer (19) and Garrett Williamson (12) both scored in double digits. Palmer hit two crucial three pointers late in the fourth quarter helping to stall the Jam’s attack.

The Toros had six players in double digit scoring. Carldell “Squeaky” Johnson (20) led the Toros in scoring, followed by Kevin Palmer (19), Marcus Cousin (16), Lewis Clinch (16) Garret Williamson (12) and Lance Thomas (10).

The Toros (7-5) will face off with the Reno Bighorns on Sunday, December 19 at 5 p.m. at Cedar Park Center. The Bakersfield Jam (6-5) will play the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Friday, December 17. For Toros tickets information please call (512) 236-8333 or visit austintoros.com ticketmaster.com.
