Red Claws down bayhawks 82-78
PORTLAND, ME – The Red Claws topped the visiting Erie BayHawks 82-78, their fifth straight win over their East Conference rivals this season. The victory upped the Red Claws’ win streak to four straight.
Both teams were playing with late editions, with Russell Robinson and Dominique Coleman joining the Red Claws on Friday, and Tyc Snow and Jarvis Gunter the newest BayHawks. Maine was down by as much as 11 points with just under three minutes remaining in the third quarter before going on a 14-2 run carrying into the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to take a 64-63 lead. After both teams went back and forth throughout the final frame, Tony Bobbitt sparked the team by scoring nine of his 13 points over the final seven and half minutes of regulation. Trey Gilder scored seven of his game-high 22 points for the Red Claws when they ended the game on a 9-2 run late in the game for the come-from-behind win in front of a sold-out Portland Expo. Gilder scored the go-ahead basket down the stretch for Maine on a turn-around jump shot in the paint while drawing the foul to give Maine the 78-76 lead. Mike Gansey and Ivan Harris led the Bay Hawks in the scoring column, both ending the game with 21 points. Erie will travel south to take on the Springfield Armor tomorrow night while the Red Claws return to action on Sunday with a 5 PM home match-up against the Armor.
