SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Jan. 15
– The Sioux Falls Skyforce made a season-high 15 3-pointers en route to a 115-97 victory over the visiting Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Friday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Skyforce made just about everything they threw at the basket as they shot 59.7 percent from the from the field (43-of-72) and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe (14-of-16) to improve to 9-2 at home.
Despite being without the services of leading scorer Ron Howard (injury), the Mad Ants came out strong and led 28-22 after the opening quarter. Sioux Falls poured it on in the second quarter as they used a 29-4 run to lead 59-39 with under two minutes to go in the first half. The Skyforce outscored the Mad Ants 39-18 in the quarter to take a comfortable 61-46 lead at halftime.
Fort Wayne battled back to cut the lead to eight points (78-70) but that would be as close as they would get as Sioux Falls made 7-of-11 3-pointers in the second half to put the game away.
Sioux Falls was led by Reggie Williams with 36 points including 4-of-8 3-pointers. Leemire Goldwire flirted with a triple-double as he finished the night with 24 points, eight rebounds and nine assists off the bench. Chris McCray posted his first double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) of the season and converted 4-of-6 from downtown.
Ryan Ayers scored 17 points to go along with a season-high five steals. Oliver Lafayette posted 16 points and seven assists while Kyle McAlarney added 15 behind 3-of-7 shooting from the 3-point line.
The Eastern Conference foes face off again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CT. The game is the first of 16 NBA Development League games to be aired on VERSUS. The game will air in HD at 10 p.m. CT.
