SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Dec. 18
– The Sioux Falls Skyforce won a nailbiter over the visiting Reno Bighorns 114-112 on Friday night. After going without a field goal for over five minutes Keith Brumbaugh made a clutch 3-pointer with 15.5 seconds left to give Sioux Falls a 113-112 lead. Greg Stiemsma followed that up with a huge block with 6.5 seconds left to help the Skyforce win their third straight contest.
Sioux Falls made 24-of-42 field goals in the first half and led 60-53 at halftime. Desmon Farmer kept Reno in the game thanks to 21 points in the first half including three straight 3-pointers in the second quarter.
Joe Krabbenhoft made a fadeaway jumper with 6:02 to push the lead to 10 points and Sioux Falls appeared to have control of the game. Reno went on a 14-2 run, thanks to five turnovers by Sioux Falls in less than two minutes, capitalized by a slam dunk by Mo Charlo with 28.1 seconds to go. Brumbaugh saved the day with his 3-pointer in the corner as the Skyforce improved to 4-1 at home.
“That’s a great team effort,” Skyforce head coach Tony Fritz said. “I’m proud of our guys for how we’re playing together and sharing the ball.”
All five starters for Sioux Falls scored in double figures led by Michael Joiner with a season-high 21 points. Brumbaugh and Krabbenhoft each scored 20 points while David Bailey and Stiemsma added 12 points apiece.
Reigning NBA Development League Performer of the Week Desmon Farmer scored a game-high 31 points behind 5-of-9 shooting from behind the 3-point line. Rod Benson had a solid all around game with 14 points, 12 rebounds and five steals while Doug Thomas recorded 13 points off the bench.
