The Springfield Armor got off to a great start in the second head-to-head matchup but came up short in a 96-84 loss to the Iowa Energy on Saturday. At the end of the first quarter the Armor led 27-20. Maurice Maxwell put up 10 points and JamesOn Curry made 2 of 3 from the 3-point line.
In the second quarter Iowa began to make a comeback. The Armor kept up despite the bench speed of Julian Allen but the team would be outscored by Iowa 21-16 and followed it by a devastating 34 additional points in the third. Maxwell continued to succeed for the Armor, but found himself in foul trouble early in the third. The Iowa lead grew to as much as 14 points.
The final quarter the Armor moved the score to within eight, but the Energy held on to take their second win of the season. Maxwell led the Armor with 21 points followed by Adam Harrington with 14. Iowa’s top scorers were Curtis Stinson with 19 and Mark Tyndale with 14.
Game attendance for Saturday’s game was 2,108, giving them a combined 6,048 fans for the weekend after their Opening Night on the 27th brought in a total of 3,940 fans. The Armor will take on the Maine Red Claws on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 at 8 p.m. in the Portland Exposition.
