Utah Flash 107, Idaho Stampede 92
Boise, Idaho, Feb. 27, 2009-Dontell Jefferson and Gavin Grant combined for 44 points, and the Utah Flash shot a blistering 68-percent from the field in the third quarter as the Flash picked up a 107-92 NBA Development League victory over the host Idaho Stampede Friday night at the Qwest Arena.
A Kevin Kruger three-pointer at the end of the third-quarter capped a Flash 25-10 run to end the third period, and complete the Utah 35-point third quarter.
Utah (19-12) moves into a West Division first place tie with the Stampede (21-14), and both teams will square off again tonight in the second game of the weekend series.
Utah trailed for the majority of the first half before a Jefferson bucket gave the Flash a 45-43 lead just before the halftime break.
The Flash opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run to grab a 51-43 lead, but the Stampede knocked down three straight three-pointers en route to a 12-2 run mid-way through the third period to grab a 55-53 lead.
But Jefferson, who dropped in 12 of his game-high points in the third quarter alone, led the Flash on the offensive charge to end the period.
Utah extended its lead to 22 points in the fourth quarter before the Stampede cut the deficit to the eventual 15 points.
Utah knocked down 34-of-45 (75-percent) attempts from the free-throw line in the winning effort.
The Stampede, who lost only their third game in Boise this season, suffered from the floor throughout the night –shooting just 33-percent (27-of-83) from the floor for the game.
Mohammed Abukar led the Stampede with 18 points, while Nate Burleson added 17 points. Luke Jackson added 16 points, and Jamaal Tatum chipped in 14.
Jefferson and Grant each chipped in 22 points for the Flash, while Ronald Dupree added 19 points.
