DES MOINES, Iowa, Jan. 29, 2009 - Othyus Jeffers scored a season-high 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Thursday night as the Iowa Energy won their fifth straight game, a 108-102 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
Jeffers made 10-of-14 shots and 14-of-18 free throws as he surpassed his previous high of 28 in a win over Anaheim on Jan. 15.
Patrick Sanders added 25 points for the Energy (16-6), who improved to 10-2 at home and opened a three-game lead over Dakota atop the Central Division.
Jeffers scored 19 points in the first half as Iowa built a 61-49 lead. But Sioux Falls scored 35 points in the third quarter and took an 84-83 edge into the final period.
A jump shot by Glen McGowan pulled the Skyforce into a 102-102 tie with 49 seconds to go, but Jeffers answered with a jumper 10 seconds later, giving the Energy the lead for good. Curtis Stinson made a free throw and Jeffers added three more to seal it.
Stinson and Brian Evans scored 14 points apiece and Stinson added 10 assists for Iowa, which shot 50 percent (37-of-74) and made 31-of-39 free throws.
McGowan scored 22 points and 2008 D-League MVP Kasib Powell added 20 for Sioux Falls (13-12), which also had five players in doubles figures. The Skyforce shot 44 percent (38-of-87) and made 19-of-30 free throws.
The teams meet here again Saturday.
