SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Jan. 16, 2009 -- Walker Russell posted 27 points and 14 assists as the Fort Wayne Mad Ants posted their second straight win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce with Friday's 124-115 road victory at Sioux Falls Arena.
The Mad Ants (8-11), who recorded their first road win of the season against the Skyforce on Thursday, opened the fourth quarter up 91-89, and an 18-9 run increased their lead to 11 with four minutes left to play. The Skyforce (12-10) pulled to within five with two minutes remaining, but were unable to close the gap and lost their third straight home game for the first time since losing three straight between Feb. 2-9, 2007.
Russell was 8-of-16 from the field and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line. He also recorded 10 or more assists for the 13th time this season.
"I was impressed of course tonight with the play of Walker," Mad Ants coach Jaren Jackson said. "He's really been the rock of this team. He's unselfish and has really been carrying us as a team leader."
Former Sioux Falls player Carl Elliot scored 25 points and was 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Chris Hunter added 22 points behind 9-of-11 shooting and Taj McCullough chipped in with 21 points.
Glen McGowan recorded his seventh double-double on the season by scoring 26 points and grabbing a season-high 22 rebounds. Frank Williams added 23 points and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line for the Skyforce.
The Mad Ants travel to Iowa to take on the Energy on Monday. The Skyforce host the Erie BayHawks on Jan. 22 at the Tullio Convention Center.
