Fort Wayne 95, Erie 90
Fort Wayne, Nov. 28 -- The Fort Wayne Mad Ants defeated the Erie BayHawks in the NBA D-League's season opener, 95-90, at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, IN in front of a crowd of 5,300 fans.
The BayHawks got off to a quick start leading for most of the first quarter and finished the first 12 minutes of play with a 21-18 lead. Oliver Lafayette heated things up for the BayHawks in the second quarter giving him 14 in the first half. The BayHawks led at the half 49-40.
The BayHawks continued to dominate the game extending their lead to 15 early in the third. The Mad Ants worked their way back into the game and outscored the BayHawks 24-17 to bring them within two points to end the quarter.
The Mad Ants shot an impressive 70 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter to take over the lead. Coleman Collins dominated the paint for the Mad Ants with a big block with just 30 seconds left on the clock to keep the Ants up by two points. Collins finished the fourth with 11 points.
Lafayette led all scorers with an impressive 31 points. Erik Daniels recorded a double-double for the BayHawks with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mad Ants were led by Ron Howard who finished with 19 points and five assists. Collins finished with 15 points and Walker Russell Jr. notched 14 points and nine assists.
The Mad Ants are back in action Sunday, November 30 at the Memorial Coliseum against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
