Albuquerque 118, Tulsa 112
TULSA, Okla., April 5 – Alando Tucker scored 34 points as the Albuquerque Thunderbirds held on for a 118-112 victory over the Tulsa 66ers, whose second home loss in as many games dealt their playoff hopes a serious blow.
Tucker, an assignee from the NBA's Phoenix Suns, made 12-of-19 shots for the Thunderbirds (22-26), who have won two in a row following a four-game slide. Former NBA player Julius Hodge scored 23 points, Kevin Pittsnogle added 19 and nine rebounds and Cheyne Gadson scored 10 off the bench.
The 66ers (25-22) came into the game tied with Colorado for second place in the Southwest Division and what likely will be the final spot in the D-League playoffs later this month.
The Thunderbirds led by 10 points in the first half. The 66ers closed to 108-105 with 2:43 to play after a layup from Mike Hall and a free throw from Keith Closs. But Tulsa got no closer.
Hall scored 27 points. He has 60 points, 19 rebounds and 13 assists in the last two games. Scott Merritt scored 22 points, Jason Fontenet added 14, Closs 11 and Derrick Dial and Jeremy Kelly 10 each for Tulsa, which hosts powerful Idaho on Sunday.
