Skyforce Closes in on Division Lead

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., March 28 – The Sioux Falls Skyforce survived a late rally by the Dakota Wizards to win 124-115 Friday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. With the win, the Skyforce pulled to within a half game of the Wizards in the Central Division race.

David Bailey led six players in double figures for the Skyforce with 29 points. Bobby Jones added 24 in his first game back with Sioux Falls after a 10-day stint with the Miami Heat. Elton Nesbitt had 23 points off the bench including six 3-pointers.

Sioux Falls ended the game shooting 57% from 3-point range (13-of-23) and 53% from the field.

“I’m not too concerned with our offense,” said Sioux Falls head coach Nate Tibbetts. “We definitely have guys that can contribute.”

Sioux Falls (26-20) dominated the first half of play leading by double digits for most of the time before Dakota (25-19) made a run late in the second quarter to cut the Skyforce lead to four before the break. Sioux Falls got back on track in the third behind 10 points from David Bailey and 11 from Bobby Jones, who ended the quarter with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. Dakota rallied in the fourth to cut the Sioux Falls lead to five late in the game but could not get any closer.

Rod Benson led three players over 20 points for Dakota with 28 points and 16 rebounds. D-League MVP candidate Carlos Powell scored 25 points to go with five assists and David Bell added 20 points off the bench for the Wizards.

Sioux Falls will get a chance to take the lead in the Central Division tomorrow night as they will again host the Wizards at 7 p.m.
