ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., March 21 – Alando Tucker scored 14 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter as the Albuquerque Thunderbirds held off a late surge by the Tulsa 66ers for their sixth straight victory, 114-108.
"This was a good win for us against a team that played well tonight," Thunderbirds coach Jeff Ruland said. "We just need to keep taking things one game at a time and see what happens."
Julius Hodge scored 20 points and Darvin Ham added 15 for Albuquerque, which had six players in double figures. Cheyne Gadson pitched in 11 points off the bench in his first game with the Thunderbirds since being acquired in a trade with the Austin Toros.
Ronald DuPree scored 27 points for Tulsa, which lost at Albuquerque for the second straight night. Mike Hall had 18 points and 13 assists and Chris Ellis scored 14 points off the bench.
With the help of Tucker, an assignee from the Phoenix Suns, Albuquerque scored 36 points in the final period. The T-Birds held off a rally by the 66ers by hitting 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch.
Tulsa limited Albuquerque to 14 points in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 78-75 entering the final period.
Albuquerque held a 30-23 lead after one quarter and a 64-56 advantage at halftime.
The T-Birds begin a seven-game road trip Sunday at Los Angeles.
