BOISE, Idaho, March 5 – Marcus Williams scored 32 points, including the go-ahead basket in the closing seconds, to lead the Austin Toros to a 105-102 victory over the Idaho Stampede in Boise on Wednesday night.
Four other Austin players scored in double figures, Der Marr Johnson notched 25 points, Justin Bowen contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Cheyne Gadson posted 16 points and 10 assists.
Leading scorer Williams also grabbed 10 rebounds in the Toros' win.
The Stampede were led by center Mouhamed Sene, an NBA assignee from the Seattle Supersonics. Sene made the most of his first start of the season, scoring a season-high 30 points and pulling down 18 rebounds. Lance Allred finished with his 18th double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
“We played hard out there tonight,” Stampede head coach Bryan Gates said. “We just didn’t execute when it mattered most.”
It was a tight ballgame as the two teams fought through 17 lead changes and 12 ties.
With the Stampede leading by one with 36 seconds remaining, Williams drove in for a layup to put the Toros on top, 103-101. The Toros' Carldell Johnson made two free throws, to seal the victory for Austin.
The victory improved Austin to 24-11 this season, while Idaho dropped to 26-10.
Idaho will play Utah in Boise, on Friday and Saturday. Austin will look to extend its winning streak to five as they take on Albuquerque on Saturday night.
