Bowen, Williams Help Toros Crush Mad Ants

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 29 - Justin Bowen scored a season-high 30 points, Marcus Williams added 24 and the Austin Toros defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, 119-108, on Friday night for their fifth win in six games. Austin (22-11) has won two straight games and remained in first place in the Southwest Division. Fort Wayne (12-21) has lost two straight games and fell to 0-2 this season against the Toros. Austin's bench contributed an impressive 62 points to help the Toros improve their home record to 15-4. Other players in double figures for the Toros included 15 points from San Antonio Spurs assignee Ian Mahinmi, 12 from Cheyne Gadson and 11 from DerMarr Johnson. Andre Barrett, who was acquired this week in a trade with Bakersfield for Justin Reed, started his first game in Austin and recorded 11 points and five assists. Earl Calloway led the Mad Ants with 25 points, adding seven assists and seven rebounds. Newly acquired James Peters scored 22 points and Corey Minnifield added 17. The Toros take on the Anaheim Arsenal on Saturday night at the Austin Convention Center in the second game of a weekend doubleheader. |
