BISMARCK, N.D., Feb. 27 -- Dakota Wizards' forward Carlos Powell scored 31 points and guard Dontell Jefferson recorded his first career triple-double to lead the Wizards to a 116-106 home victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Wednesday.
Jefferson scored 13 points, hauled down 10 rebounds and dished out 11 assists as the Wizards regained control of the NBA Developmental League's Central Division.
Blake Ahearn contributed 29 points for the Wizards. Forward Rod Benson finished the night with his 16th double-double of the season, notching 19 points and 13 rebounds. Carlos Powell, who played earlier this month in the D-League All-Star game, added seven assists in the victory.
The Skyforce were led by D-League All-Star forward Kasib Powell, who scored 28 points. Guard David Bailey finished the night with 23 points, while center Chris Alexander nailed his fourth straight double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
“It’s good to get back on track here," said head coach Duane Ticknor after the Wizards snapped a three-game home losing skid. “Our veterans played well for us tonight, Dontell was outstanding. Rod's energy set the tone for the team.”
With the win, the Wizards moved to 20-16 on the season and will face the Bakersfield Jam on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
Sioux Falls, who fell to 20-17, heads home to face the Jam on Saturday night.
Dakota jumped out to an early lead, led by Benson, who had eight points and seven rebounds in the first quarter. The Wizards outscored the Skyforce, 30-19, at the end of the first quarter.
