Fazekas Leads 66ers to Third Straight Road Win

Tulsa 112, Colorado 110

DENVER, Jan. 10 – Dallas Mavericks assignee Nick Fazekas led the way with a season-high 32 points and 18 rebounds as the Tulsa 66ers earned their third straight road win, beating the Colorado 14ers 112-110 in overtime Thursday at the Broomfield Event Center.

The rookie forward also hit the game-winning layup with 4.8 seconds left in overtime for Tulsa, which improved to 7-10 with the victory. Colorado dropped to 9-8 with its fourth straight loss.

“I played well tonight.  I started off the game rebounding the ball real well and was able to knock some shots down throughout the game,” Fazekas said.  “I’m happy because my dad and my mom and my little brother were able to come watch, so I’m happy about that.”

Fazekas was playing his first game as a pro in Colorado, where he was the two-time Colorado 4A High School Player of the Year at Ralston Valley High School, just minutes away from Broomfield.

Tulsa trailed 59-47 at the half and was down 18 points when Colorado’s Eddie Gill and Kaniel Dickens hit back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the third quarter.  From the 11:04 mark of the third quarter on, the 66ers outscored the 14ers 56-38 over the final two periods to force overtime.  After Fazekas’ layup in the final seconds of overtime, Colorado’s Billy Thomas misfired on a 3-pointer that would have won the game, and Elton Brown’s put back attempt missed off of the back of the rim to give Tulsa the victory.

The Tulsa backcourt of Ramon Sessions and Adam Harrington also combined for 40 points in the 66ers' win. Colorado was led by Dickens' 22 points.  Brown also posted 20 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

Colorado travels to Boise to take on the Idaho Stampede Friday at Qwest Arena. Tulsa returns home to host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Saturday.
