OREM, Utah, Jan. 10 - Brian Jackson led six players in double figures with 19 points as the Utah Flash took advantage of the absence of call-up C.J. Watson for a 102-86 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Watson, the D-League’s Player of the Month for December, was called up by the Golden State Warriors. Without him, Rio Grande had its lowest scoring output of the season and lost its third straight game.
The Vipers led by nine points before settling for a 20-16 advantage after the first quarter. The Flash started the second quarter with a 9-0 run capped by Brian Hamilton's dunk at the 8:43 mark.
Utah opened an eight-point lead at halftime and never trailed again, usinga 38-point third quarter to open a 24-point lead. Rio Grande got no closer than 12 points in the fourth period.
Former Wake Forest forward Trent Strickland led Rio Grande with 21 points and Craig Winder chipped in 20 in his first start of the season. Cleveland assignee Cedric Simmons scored five points and blocked four shots in his final game with the Vipers as he is expected to be recalled by the Cavaliers on Thursday.
Andre Ingram added 15 points off the bench on 5-of-6 shooting for Utah, which has won four of six.
Rio Grande completes its eight-game road swing Saturday against Southwest Division rival Tulsa. Utah hosts Fort Wayne on Friday.
