Mad Ants 111, Skyforce 87 (F)
FORT WAYNE, Ind., Dec. 30 -- Earl Calloway scored 14 of his 25 points in the first quarter to give the Fort Wayne Mad Ants the early spark they needed to defeat the Sioux Falls Skyforce 111-87 Sunday evening at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, giving the Mad Ants their largest margin of victory so far this season.
After an even battle in the first two quarters of play, the Mad Ants went on an 11-0 run in the opening five minutes of the second half to increase their lead to 15. The Skyforce made a final attempt at a comeback and cut the lead to as little as 9 at the end of the third quarter, but the Mad Ants dominated the rest of the game, outscoring the Skyforce 29-15 in the fourth quarter.
Coming off a 41 point night on Friday, the Mad Antsí Sammy Mejia gave another outstanding performance, leading all scorers with 28 points. Along with Mejia and Calloway, Corey Minnifield continued his solid play with 18 points and 7 rebounds. In his first start of the season, Nate Gerwig made a huge impact in the paint by pulling down 11 rebounds.
David Bailey and Michael Joiner chipped in18 points apiece to lead Sioux Falls, while Carl Elliot added 13.
The Fort Wayne Mad Ants (5-8) and the Sioux Falls Skyforce (5-9) will meet for the third time this season on Thursday, January 3rd, once again in Fort Wayne. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM Eastern time at the Memorial Coliseum.
