Flash 118, Toros 116 (F-OT)

OREM, Utah, Dec. 21 -- Morris Almond tied the NBA Development League scoring record, pouring in 51 points to lift the Utah Flash to a 118-116 overtime victory over the Austin Toros on Friday at the McKay Events Center.

“It all came in the flow of the game.” Almond said of his record-tying offensive performance. “I am just happy to be able to get some minutes and contribute. Everybody contributed to this win.”

The Flash (6-5) complete a six game homestand by hosting the Bakersfield Jam on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The Toros (7-4) return home to face the Tulsa 66ers, after finishing 0-3 on a three-game road trip and dropping from first place in the Southwest Division.

Brian Hamilton recorded his third double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Kevin Kruger doubled up for the second time this season, finishing with 10 points and a career high 15 assists. Aristide Sawadogo finished with nine points and five rebounds off the bench in his Flash debut.

The Flash led after the first quarter for only the second time this season, outscoring the Toros 30-12 in the first period and then used production from its bench players, outscoring the Toros bench 32-15 for the game.

“It was a team win, because everybody played a part.” Flash coach Brad Jones said. “Mo had a great night with 51 points, but I am just as pleased with the fact that with just seconds to go in the game he is taking it to the basket and drawing fouls.”

Six players finished in double figures for Austin. Ian Mahinimi led the Toros with 32 points and 17 rebounds, while Kevin Pittsnogle recorded 18 points, including 5-of-8 shooting from the three-point line. Cheyne Gadson added 21 points and Darius Washington chipped in 16. Marcus Williams and Justin Bowen each finished with 11 points for the Toros.
