Sioux Falls 109, Anaheim 97
Anaheim, March 13 -- The Sioux Falls Skyforce have now won seven of their last eight games after defeating the Anaheim Arsenal, 109-97, Tuesday night in Anaheim. The Skyforce were led by Amir Johnson, who scored 24 points, including 20 in the first half, and collected 11 rebounds.
Sioux Falls jumped out to an early 12-point advantage after the first quarter, 29-17, and extended their lead to 15 midway through the second. The Arsenal fought back to take the lead, 75-72, with 4:20 remaining in the third quarter but could not hang on as the Skyforce eventually pulled away with a strong fourth period.
The Skyforce also received a fine performance from Frank Williams, who poured in 24 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists. Robert Hite scored 17, while Stephen Graham added 16.
“It was a hard fought game by both teams tonight,” said Skyforce head coach Mo McHone. “We are a tough team right now with Amir (Johnson) playing the way he is.”
Steven Smith led the Arsenal with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Andre Owens scored 20 points to go along with his 11 rebounds. Majic Dorsey contributed 12 points and 11 assists.
Team leading scorer Jawad Williams left the game early in the second quarter with neck pain after a collision, though he would return late in the third.
The Arsenal fought back from an early 15-point deficit, but things fell apart for them in the final quarter, where they were outscored 28-18. After a string of multiple fouls, Arsenal interim head coach Reggie Geary was ejected upon receiving his second technical of the game.
“We showed a lot of heart to get back into the game after falling behind early,” Geary said. “There were a couple of situations in the second half where we didn’t take advantage, which led to why we didn’t win this game.”
The Arsenal (18-23) will look to turn things around when they travel to Boise to take on the Idaho Stampede on Friday night. The Skyforce (24-16) will look to continue their current winning streak when they return home to take on the Austin Toros Sunday night
