RimRockers Doomed by Poor Second Half

Sioux Falls 118, Arkansas 88

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Jan. 20 -- Vincent Grier poured in a game high 31 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the host Arkansas RimRockers 118-88 on Saturday night.

Arkansas and Sioux Falls continue to go in different directions as they both added on to their respective losing and winning streaks.  Arkansas (6-16) extended the D-League’s all-time losing streak to 14, its eighth straight at Alltel Arena, while the Skyforce won their fourth consecutive game to improve to 15-9.  Sioux Falls has beaten Arkansas all five times that they have played, including the last two in Arkansas.

“The first five minutes of the third quarter are the most important time of a basketball game.” said RimRockers Head Coach Andy Stoglin.  “Normally we play well in the third and the fourth quarter; we were having trouble in the first and second quarter.  Tonight we didn’t play well in the third.”

For the second straight night the RimRockers and Skyforce went to the locker rooms after a close first half.  With a 50-46 halftime lead the Skyforce jumped out with a 23-7 run to start the third quarter.

The RimRockers newest addition, Roger Powell, led the way with 16 points and five rebounds.  Olu Famutimi also contributed with 15 and a game-high nine rebounds off the bench, but the team was unable to defend or take care of the basketball.  The RimRockers committed 30 turnovers compared to only 13 for the Skyforce.

NBA assigned player Amir Johnson continued to show why the Detroit Pistons have him under contract as he again played well on both ends of the court.  He led the Skyforce with seven rebounds and trailed only Grier with 20 points to go along with four blocks and two steals.

“The losing is taking a toll and it showed up tonight.” Stoglin said.

The RimRockers will head to Austin next Friday night, while Sioux Falls will also play Friday when they travel to face the Tulsa 66ers.
