Thunderbirds Impressive in Win Over Arsenal
Albuquerque 114, Anaheim 69
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., November 25, 2006 – Troy Bell recorded 18 points and eight assists to lead the Thunderbirds to their second consecutive victory in as many nights over the Anaheim Arsenal, 114-69. Anaheim led early in the first quarter, but foul trouble and good defense helped the Thunderbirds take a 10-point lead later in the period. With 45 seconds left to play in the third quarter, center Marcus Douthit left the game with what appeared to be a high-ankle sprain. He left the game with 17 points. Aggressive play by both teams was restrained due to the tight calls. The referees called 55 total fouls, including 5 technicals. Anaheim’s transition defensive was no match for the run-and-gun Thunderbirds offense. The Thunderbirds lead would only increase to an 82-60 rout into the fourth quarter. Anaheim had a total of 19 turnovers. The Thunderbirds opened the fourth quarter on a 20-0 run. Arsenal trailed by 42 points, and would not sink a basket until Milone Clark rattled one of two free-throws with 4:29 left in the game. Up next for the winless Anaheim Arsenal (0-2) are the Arkansas Rimrockers (1-0). The undefeated Albuquerque Thunderbirds (2-0) look forward to squaring off in Idaho against the Stampede (0-1) at 7pm.
