Hemsley Helps Altitude Over Flight
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Dec. 26 -- Johnny Hemsley scored six of his game-high 19 points during a 10-2 fourth quarter run that helped the Asheville Altitude (12-7) pull away for a 75-66 victory over the Huntsville Flight (5-12) at the Von Braun Center.
Asheville won for the ninth time in their last 10 games while the Flight dropped its seventh straight game. David Crouse led the Flight with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
"We were happy to get out of here with a win tonight," said Altitude Head Coach Joey Meyer. "Our team is playing with confidence. I think all that team (the Flight) needs is one win to get back on track."
In addition to Hemsley, Lee Scruggs pumped in a double-figure effort for Asheville with 15 points in only 23 minutes before sitting out most of the fourth quarter. Jermaine Tate contributed eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Altitude.
Flight starting backcourt Tyrone Ellis and Michael Wilks contributed 11 and 10 points respectively. The Flight shot just 32.4 percent (24-74) while the Altitude shot 41.8 percent (28-67) from the field.
"We didn't execute down the stretch," said Flight Head Coach Bob Thornton. "It has been the same three things hurting us over and over -- free throw shooting, rebounding and offensive execution."
The Flight returns to action Friday in a nationally televised game on ESPN at 2 p.m. ET against the North Charleston Lowgators while Asheville travels to 12-7 Mobile in a battle for second place in the NBDL.
