Lowgators Snap Altitude's Winning Streak
ASHEVILLE, N.C., Dec. 22 -- North Charleston guard Fred House scored 20 first-quarter points on 7-of-12 shooting, including four three-pointers, as the Lowgators defeated the Asheville Altitude 87-76 in NBDL action Saturday afternoon. House ended the game with 22 points.
"Fred was on fire in the first quarter," said Lowgators head coach Alex English. "He set the tone early for our team and everyone just climbed on board and we were able to get this win on the road."
North Charleston, which fell at home to Asheville on Friday night 81-77, shot a sizzling 51 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line to post a 54-40 halftime lead.
"This was by far one of the best halves we've played as a team," said English, whose team improved to 14-5 on the season. "We were determined to not let them back into the game and to not lose."
Asheville, winner of eight of its last 11 games, had its seven-game winning streak snapped and fell to 10-7 on the season.
"Obviously we don't like losing, but you knew it was going to happen sooner or later," said Altitude head coach Joey Meyer, referring to the end of the winning streak. "We lost to a very good team."
North Charleston led by as many as 16 points in the second half and never relinquished a lead of less than eight points.
"We shot the ball extremely well tonight and our defense was able to stop those guys, who hurt us on Friday night," said English.
In addition to House, North Charleston got double-figure scoring from Galen Young (18 points) and Tess Whitlock (13 points). Neil Edwards and B.J. McKie chipped in with seven points each, with Edwards also recording four blocked shots.
Asheville was led in scoring by Lee Scruggs (18 points, 13 rebounds), Chris Carrawell (16 points), Paul Grant (14 points) and Johnny Hemsley (10 points).
