Young, House Lead Lowgators in OT

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Dec. 18 -- Galen Young scored six points and Fred House added four in overtime as North Charleston outscored Huntsville 14-4 in the extra period, registering a 85-75 overtime victory at the Von Braun Center.

The victory improves the NBDL-leading Lowgators to 13-4, including 2-0 in overtime. Huntsville dropped to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in overtime games. The loss was a season-high fourth consecutive for the Flight.

"We got selfish late in the game and in overtime, said Flight coach Bob Thornton. "We played great in the second half to overcome an 11-point deficit and take a nine-point lead with six minutes to go and then we quit running the offense."

North Charleston limited Huntsville to 2-of-8 shooting and forced three Flight turnovers in the overtime period. The Lowgators were 6-of-9 from the field in the extra period. Despite playing with a considerably smaller lineup, North Charleston outrebounded the Flight 55-39.

"I told our guys going into the overtime period that we needed to continue to push the ball and run, that if we pushed it they would get tired," North Charleston coach Alex English said. "We sped up the tempo and they got tired. You could see they were tired by the way they played defense in overtime."

Lowgators guard Fred House led all scorers with 18 points while Young, who had to be assisted from the court to the halftime locker room, had 15 points. Shelly Clark led the Flight with his seventh double-double this season (17 points, 10 rebounds) while Terrance Roberson added 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

"Injuries are a part of this game. If I thought I would be hurting the team I wouldn't have gone back out there," Young said. "We are trying to do something special here and there are times everybody has to play through some pain. Tonight it was my turn."

It appeared the Lowgators had put the game away at the end of regulation when Webber coaxed in a putback with 1.2 seconds left to play, but Huntsville called timeout and Clark was able to catch the ball and launch a turnaround jumper that connected and tied the game at 71-71.
