Riverdragons Take Flight

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Dec. 15 -- Gabe Muoneke notched his first double-double of the season, scoring 25 points and collecting 11 rebounds to lead the Columbus Riverdragons to a 97-84 victory over the Huntsville Flight on Saturday at the Von Braun Center.

The victory snapped the Riverdragons' three-game losing streak and raised their road record to 4-1 on the season.

"I was happy with our intensity tonight," said Columbus coach Jeff Malone. "We played for 40 minutes tonight, which hasn't happened in a long while."

Muoneke led six Riverdragons in double figures, including Tremaine Fowlkes (14), Stais Boseman (14), George Reese (13), Chris Garner (10) and Ray Tutt (10). Columbus shot 50 percent (32-for-64) from the field while holding the Flight to 42.7 percent (32-for-75).

"It was a tough night for us," said Flight coach Bob Thornton. "We didn't play aggressive enough. When you play against good teams and you don't match their intensity, you get beat."

Jimmie Hunter led the Flight in scoring with 18 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Shelly Clark notched his sixth double-double in 12 games this season, registering 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Columbus broke open a three-point game with a 14-6 run to close the second quarter and take a 45-34 lead to the halftime locker room. The Riverdragons extended their lead to 16 points (56-40) with an 11-6 run midway through the third quarter. The Flight got as close as eight (86-78) with 2:11 left to play but the Riverdragons closed the game with an 11-6 run to seal the victory.

The Riverdragons, who scored a season-high 97 points, improved to 7-5, one-half game behind the Mobile Revelers for second place in the NBDL, while the Flight dropped to 5-7.
