Mobile Pulls Away in the Fourth
MOBILE, Ala., Dec. 11-- Revelers center Dwayne Schintzius scored a game-high 18 points as Mobile defeated the Columbus Riverdragons 74-63 Tuesday.
The Revelers, who lead by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter, improved their record to 6-5 on the season. The Riverdragons also stand at 6-5.
Early in the first quarter, forward Derek Hood -- who notched a double-double against the Riverdragons on Dec. 9 -- had to leave the game with an eye injury.
"We had guys come off the bench to play very well. Though, we were concerned as to how we would play with Derek having to leave the game, the guys stepped up and rallied for the win. This was a great win," said Revelers coach Sam Vincent.
The Revelers led 38-33 at halftime behind Jason McCutcheon's nine points. Tremaine Fowlkes had 10 points and six rebounds for the Riverdragons, which was still not enough. The Riverdragons turned up the pressure in the third quarter with a five-point run to tie the score 38-38. But for every basket the Revelers had an answer, holding steady for the victory and giving Columbus its third straight loss.
"This was a hard loss. We are a talented team, but a soft team. We have a lot of work ahead of us to get to that point where we can finish strong and hard," said Columbus coach Jeff Malone.
Isaac Fontaine finished with 12 points and five rebounds. McCutcheon had 11 points.
