Mobile's Defense Frustrates Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga., Dec. 9 -- The Mobile Revelers (5-5) defense held the Columbus Riverdragons (6-4), the second-highest scoring team in the NBDL, to just seven points in the fourth quarter to take a 76-61 victory at the Columbus Civic Center on Sunday.

The Revelers were led by guard Derek Hood, who scored six of his season-high 23 points in the fourth quarter. Hood also had a team-high 12 rebounds to post his second double-double of the season.

Isaac Fontaine, the league's second-leading scorer, had 22 points while the newly acquired Anthony Johnson pitched in 10. Fontaine hit 8-of-14 shots from the floor and all six of his free throw attempts.

The Riverdragons trailed by one, 57-56 with 9:29 to play in regulation before the Revelers went on an 11-3 run to put the game out of reach. The Riverdragons outrebounded the Revelers by 14, 51-37, but were hampered by poor shooting, hitting just 24-of-69 (34.8 percent) shots from the floor.

The 61 points was least the Riverdragons have scored through 10 games this season. The least the Riverdragons had tallied in a game before this evening's loss was 79 (twice), most recently in their 79-78 win at Asheville last Tuesday.

The Riverdragons were lead by Tremaine Fowlkes, the NBDL player of the Month, with 15 points and seven rebounds. Fowlkes has led the Riverdragons in scoring in seven of his last nine games. Riverdragons guards Nate Johnson had 12 points and Chris Garner had 10.

For the second straight night, Riverdragons backup center Kareem Poole reached double-figures in rebounds, pulling down a season-high 18 boards. The effort ties Huntsville's Shelly Clark for the best rebounding performance in the league this season. Clark also had 18 rebounds against the Riverdragons in Columbus' season-opening victory over the Flight on Nov. 18.

For the second straight night at home, the Riverdragons also struggled from the free throw line, managing to make just 63 percent (12-for-19) from the line. The Riverdragons shot a meager 55 percent from the line (16-for-29) in Saturday night's 97-93 overtime loss to the first-place North Charleston Lowgators.

The loss is the second straight for the Riverdragons, who have lost four of their last six games at home.
