Harrell's the Hero for Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Dec. 1 -- Huntsville forward Lonnie Harrell shook his defender and sank a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Flight their third win of the season, 87-86 over the North Charleston Lowgators on Saturday night.

"This was an absolutely great win for our team," said Flight head coach Bob Thornton. "It was a total team effort and the guys played really well tonight. Lonnie is a big-time player and he gave us a big-time three when we really needed it."

Harrell led the Flight with 22 points, shooting 7-of-16 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. He also grabbed seven rebounds. Kelvin Price scored 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Shelly Clark added 14 points and 13 boards while Terrance Roberson chipped in 15 points.

Sedric Webber led the Lowgators with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Galen Young added 14 points and Tess Whitlock, Fred House and BJ McKie each scored 10.

The Flight, down 40-34 at the half, battled back with a 24-11 run, scoring 14 points in the lane. Price scored eight points in this run as the Flight took a 58-51 lead at the 3:03 mark.

McKie responded with six points as his team mounted a 12-2 comeback and regained the lead (63-60) before Flight forwards Clark and John Jackson combined on a three-point play to tie the game at the end of the third quarter.

Huntsville pulled out to a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter but was unable to maintain its gap as North Charleston outscored the Flight 16-4 over four minutes of play, tying the game 84-84 on a pair of Tess Whitlock free throws with little over a minute left.

The Lowgators then missed four scoring opportunities -- two foul shots and two jumpers from the ensuing rebound -- before Neil Edwards tipped the ball in with four seconds on the clock giving North Charleston an 86-84 nod. However, celebration was not meant for the road-weary Lowgators as Harrell hit the game winning shot as the clock expired.

Huntsville is now 3-4 on the season with a 2-1 home record. North Charleston is now 7-2.

The Flight leave on a four-game, nine-day road trip with stops at Mobile, North Charleston and Fayetteville. The Lowgators return home to host Roanoke on Dec. 3.
