Revelers End Lowgators Win Streak
MOBILE, Ala. -- Sedric Webber's three-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark and Mobile held on to post a 62-59 NBDL victory over North Charleston at the Mobile Civic Center Wednesday night.
The loss is the first of the season for the Lowgators, who dropped to 6-1. Mobile improved to 3-2 with the victory. The two teams play again here Friday night in the second of a three-game road trip for North Charleston.
The game was a tale of two halves, with the Lowgators taking control early and cruising out to a 40-31 halftime lead. The halftime lead was North Charleston's first of the season.
Mobile came out firing on all cylinders to start the second half, outscoring North Charleston 20-5 in the third quarter. The Revelers led 60-53 with 1:48 left to play, but the Lowgators rallied to cut the margin to 60-58 on a Neil Edwards putback with 1:10 left.
Donald Watts wasted an opportunity to put the game away for Mobile, missing two free throws with 20 seconds left to set up North Charleston's last ditch try to win seven straight.
"We beat ourselves tonight. We completely lost our intensity in the third quarter, which has normally been our time of the game," Lowgators head coach Alex English said. "Give Mobile credit, they came out ready to play in the second half.
"For once we came out strong, but we can't have those kind of letdowns," English said. "As poorly as we played in the second half, we were still in a position to win the game at the end. We just have to have a strong practice Thursday and be ready to play Friday night."
Isaac Fontaine had 19 points for Mobile to lead all scorers. Jamario Moon followed 13. Derek Hood and Mike Wilks had 11 rebounds for the Revelers.
Chris Robinson was the only North Charleston player to score in double figures, finishing with 11 points. Fred House had nine points to end his consecutive streak of scoring in double figures at six games.
