Flight Notch Second Straight Win
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 27 -- The Huntsville Flight extended its winning streak to two games and charted its first home victory before a crowd of 1,346 fans as they defeated the Asheville Altitude 76-68 in tonight’s NBDL game at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Ala.
Terrance Roberson led the Flight with 12 points, while Lonnie Harrell tallied 11 points and six boards. Flight forward Kelvin Price added six points and six rebounds.
“We told them to close out and not let Asheville drive and then (Asheville) started missing shots and that made the difference in the game,” said Flight head coach Bob Thornton.
The Huntsville Flight jumped out to a first quarter 24-20 lead over the visiting Asheville Altitude. Jeremy Veal and Terrance Roberson combined to lead the Flight with 12 points going 4-for-5 from the field and 4-for-6 from the line.
The Altitude fought back from a four-point first-quarter deficit with a 11-5 run to take the lead at 5:06 in the second quarter. The Flight had to battle back from as much as four down to tie the game, 37-37, on a Kelvin Price dunk with 54.9 seconds left in the half. With 20 seconds left on the clock, Shelly Clark missed two free throws that could have given the Flight the lead and Tyson Patterson scored on a reverse layup to reclaim the lead for the Altitude to end the half at 39-37.
The Altitude started the second half with an 8-2 run extending the lead to 45-39. The Flight responded, tying the game four times over the next three minutes of play before taking the lead at the 2:10 mark on a Tyrone Ellis jumper. The Flight held a 56-53 advantage after three quarters.
The Flight broke out on an 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter and extended their lead to 11 points (64-53) just four minutes into the quarter. The Altitude battled back and cut the Flight lead to five points (69-64) at the 2:12 mark as Jason Hart hit his third jumper of the quarter.
The Flight improved to 2-3 while Asheville fell to 2-3.
The Flight host the Columbus Riverdragons on Friday, Nov. 30 and the North Charleston Lowgators on Saturday, Dec. 1. The Altitude travel to Fayetteville for league play on Thursday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Dec. 1.
