Phillips Leads Roanoke Past Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Nov. 25 -- Former Appalachian State guard Marshall Phillips scored 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting to lead the Roanoke Dazzle to a 70-62 win on the road over the Asheville Altitude on Sunday.

Phillips, who played with Altitude point guard Tyson Patterson in college, also went 2-of-5 from the three-point line.

With the win, the Dazzle improves to 3-1 on the season, while the Altitude drops to 2-2. Asheville defeated Roanoke last week 70-66.

"We are starting to play better as a group," said Roanoke coach Kent Davidson. "We didn't play very well in the third quarter, but you have to take your hats off to Joey (Meyer) and his crew. They didn't want to be blown out in their own building and they did everything they could to get back into the game."

Roanoke led by as many as 24 points in the second half before the Altitude stormed back to cut the Roanoke deficit to six points with 2:23 remaining in the fourth quarter. Following a Johnny Hemsley trey, the Altitude had closed the score to within four points with only 18 seconds to go in the quarter.

The Dazzle would make six straight free throws to secure the win.
