Antonio Grant Paces Lowgators' Victory

Von Braun Center, November 13, 2001

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Former South Carolina Gamecock Antonio Grant scored 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting to lead the North Charleston Lowgators to their first win, a 72-61 victory over the Huntsville Flight in both teams' final preseason game. Both teams finish the preseason at 1-1.

Grant added five rebounds to his game-high 17. C.J. Black scored 12 points with nine rebounds. Galen Young had 10 points.

"This game shows that you can't count the Lowgators out because we have not played long," said Antonio Grant. "I just wanted to do the little things to help the team win." Grant did the little things with the help of some big, borrowed shoes. Without his own shoes, he had to borrow a pair of size-14 sneakers from Huntsville's public relations manager, John Dowdy.

"My guys will make my decision tough when we make our final roster cut to 11 players after tonight's performance," said Head Coach Alex English. "I couldn't have asked more out of the team with all the great positives and playing great defense."

Jimmy Hunter led the Huntsville Flight with 14 points with Kelvin Price and Lonnie Harrell both scoring 12 points apiece.

North Charleston will tip off the NBDL's first-ever regular season game when they travel to Greenville for the 4 p.m. game on Friday against the Groove.
