Mad Ants Get FIt Challenge

The Mad Ants and DeKalb Health are challenging the Fort Wayne area's youth to lead a more active lifestyle. The Mad Ants Get Fit Challenge encourages student's and faculty to be active at least 30 minutes a day for 25 of 30 days. The Mad Ants kick off each school's Get Fit Challenge with an assembly at the school. The assembly will get the kids energized about fitness and excited about the Get Fit Challenge. Students may earn a free ticket to their night by recording their activities on a Get Fit form. GET FIT AND BE HAPPY FORT WAYNE!

Suggested activities to do outside of school

  • Visit your local basketball court or gym and shoot some hoops
  • Go to a local bowling alley as a family and have fun while being active
  • Go for a family bike ride
  • DANCE!
  • Help mom and dad shovel snow
  • Go sledding
  • Walk your dog
  • Go swimming
  • Play a friendly game of tag
  • Jump rope

  • Children who are active and exercise regularly are more likely to live longer, healthier lives than those who do not.
  • Being active can greatly reduce serious health risks.
  • Being active also includes eating healthy.
  • Youth endure stress while in school; being in-shape and healthy can reduce stress levels.
  • Participation in all types of physical activity declines as age and/or grade in school increases.
  • Social support from family and friends has been consistently and positively related to regular physical activity.
  • Children who do not get enough sleep are more apt to be overweight.
  • The most important part of the future is our youth. Keeping them healthy should be a priority, not just a goal.
