Celtics Sign Fort Wayne's Oliver Lafayette

NEW YORK, April 14, 2010 The Boston Celtics today signed guard Oliver Lafayette of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, making him the record 40th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA Development League season. Lafayette joins 85 current NBA players with NBA D-League experience.

Lafayette appeared in 48 games, 42 starts, for Fort Wayne during the 2009-10 NBA D-League regular season, averaging 17.1 points, 6.5 assists and 1.8 steals in 35.3 minutes. He scored in double figures 40 times, recording seven double-doubles. He scored a season-high 34 points in a 108-99 victory over the Maine Red Claws on March 16 in Fort Wayne, and dished out a season-high 14 assists in a 140-137 road loss to the Iowa Energy on Dec. 29, 2009 in Des Moines.

Lafayette, 6-2, 190-pounds, played two seasons at the University of Houston, averaging 14.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists during his final campaign. For his efforts, he earned All-Conference USA Second Team honors in 2006 and 2007.

Lafayette is expected to join the Celtics today and be available tonight when the team hosts the Milwaukee Bucks.
