Celtics Sign Fort Wayne's Oliver Lafayette

NEW YORK, April 14, 2010 – The Boston Celtics today signed guard Oliver Lafayette of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, making him the record 40th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA Development League season. Lafayette joins 85 current NBA players with NBA D-League experience.

Lafayette appeared in 48 games, 42 starts, for Fort Wayne during the 2009-10 NBA D-League regular season, averaging 17.1 points, 6.5 assists and 1.8 steals in 35.3 minutes. He scored in double figures 40 times, recording seven double-doubles. He scored a season-high 34 points in a 108-99 victory over the Maine Red Claws on March 16 in Fort Wayne, and dished out a season-high 14 assists in a 140-137 road loss to the Iowa Energy on Dec. 29, 2009 in Des Moines.

Lafayette, 6-2, 190-pounds, played two seasons at the University of Houston, averaging 14.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists during his final campaign. For his efforts, he earned All-Conference USA Second Team honors in 2006 and 2007.

Lafayette is expected to join the Celtics today and be available tonight when the team hosts the Milwaukee Bucks.
