ERIE - The NBA Development League, Erie BayHawks in conjunction with the Pittsburgh-based Tickets For Kids Charities® run the Big Assist program, which makes available tickets to Erie-area non-profits who work with children and families who might not otherwise be able to attend the team’s games.
“Our ownership group, led by Steve Demetriou and Owen McCormick, initiated our signing on with the Tickets For Kids Charities® by making the initial donation to the Big Assist program.” said team President Ron Sertz. “Since that jump start, the response has been exactly what we’ve come to expect from the generous Erie community, simply amazing.”
Numerous individuals as well as members of the business community have made ticket donations to the Big Assist program. Sertz cited Erie Insurance for making a significant contribution to the program. "We are thrilled to partner with the Erie BayHawks to create opportunities for disadvantaged children to experience Erie BayHawks games" said Vera Marelli, Program Director for Tickets for Kids Charities. Non-profit agencies interested in obtaining donated tickets through the Big Assist program can learn more by calling the BayHawks office at 790-5600.
The Erie BayHawks, PNC Bank and the NBA Development League work to promote the love of reading through the Read to Achieve program. The program, which includes schools from the Erie City School District, Millcreek Township School District, and Diocese of Erie schools, includes special Read to Achieve Nights and monthly Reading Timeouts. Todate, The BayHawks have over 4,000 student participants in the Read to Achieve program.
The Big Assist Program, in conjunction with Pittsburgh-based Tickets For Kids Charities® and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, provides tickets to Erie-area non-profits who work with underprivileged children and families who might not otherwise be able to attend the team’s games.
