The Erie BayHawks continue to shape their roster as they make a push for the post-season. On Monday, the team acquired two new players and released three others.
The BayHawks announced the signing of guard Tyrone Brazelton and forward Sherrod Ford. Ford was then traded to Canton in exchange for forward Frank Hassell. To open spots on the roster, the team released NBA veterans Mike James (personal reasons) and Devin Brown (released due to injury) as well as guard B.J. Jenkins.
Brazelton (6-1, 180 lbs) attended Western Kentucky University where he averaged 14.4 points per game for the Hilltoppers during his senior season. He also played an instrumental roll in leading the team to a Sweet 16 appearance with wins over fifth seeded Drake and San Diego. Following his collegiate career, he played professionally in Poland and Latvia.
Hassell (6-9, 245 lbs) played collegiately for Old Dominion University. During his senior season with the Monarchs, he was named to the first-team All Colonial Athletic Association, CAA All-Defensive team and CAA tournament MVP. Following college, he played briefly in the Turkish Basketball league before receiving an invite to training camp with the San Antonio Spurs. After his release from San Antonio, he signed with the Canton Charge where he averaged 10.1 points and 7.8 rebounds in only 21.6 minutes per game.
Both Brazelton and Hassell are expected to join the team for Thursday’s game in Fort Wayne and will make their home debuts on Saturday, February 18 when the Dakota Wizards come to town. Saturday night is Ladies Night, presented by Charisma Salon. Penelec will present an acrobatic performance by the widely renowned Anton Brothers.
