BayHawks To Host Draft Party

ERIE – The Erie BayHawks will host an NBA Development League Draft Party on Thursday, November 5, at 6:30 pm at the Fox and Hound English Pub and Grille, 250 Millcreek Plaza. ALL MEDIA ARE INVITED TO ATTEND.

The BayHawks will have the second overall pick in the first round, of the eight-round player draft which will be carried live on NBA-TV.

“We consider draft night to be the unofficial start to the season because this is where our roster really starts to take shape.” said BayHawks president Matt Bresee. “Having the second overall pick presents an exciting opportunity for us to get a guy that was likely a part of an NBA training camp roster.”

The evening will also be highlighted by an appearance from returning BayHawks forward Jackie Manuel. The former North Carolina Tar Heel star and BayHawks shutdown defender, will be on hand to sign autographs and greet fans.

The admission to the event is free and open to the public and everyone who attends will have the opportunity to win great prizes including: signed gear from the BayHawks, and prize packs from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Sports Obsession in the Millcreek Mall. Fans will also enjoy free food and drink specials, plus appearances by BayHawks coaches John Treloar and Ben McDonald, members of the BayHawks Dance Team and “Clutch” the mascot.

AM 1260 The Score (ESPN Radio/WRIE) afternoon host Mike “Chico” Bormann will broadcast live on location from 4:00-6:30 pm the day of the event, featuring a draft preview, BayHawks staff interviews and more.

NBA Development League

The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA’s official minor league and featured 16 teams with direct affiliations to NBA teams during the 2008-09 season. This Fall, two new NBA D-League teams will begin play in Portland, Maine and Springfield, Mass.-- the birthplace of basketball. Eighty-four former NBA Development League players were on 2008-09 NBA end-of-season rosters, amounting to almost 20 percent of NBA players, and the league continues to develop coaches, referees, and front office staff for the NBA and its teams. In fostering the league’s connection to the community, its teams, players and staff promote health and wellness, support local needs and interests, and assist in educational development through NBA D-League Cares programs. The NBA D-League also advances the game of basketball as the research and development arm of the NBA. Throughout the season fans can watch all NBA D-League games on NBA Futurecast, the free live Web-streaming initiative found at nba.com/futurecast.
