BayHawks Add Nine to Training Camp Roster
Returning to Erie are D.J. Kennedy, Mychel Thompson, Chris Daniels, Marvin Phillips Jr., Tirrell Baines and Garrett Temple. Henry Sims and Oscar Bellfield have been added to the roster as affiliate players. Both players spent time on the New York Knicks pre-season roster. League rules allow Erie to claim the rights of up to three players who were released by the Knicks, the BayHawks NBA parent club, during training camp. Ryan Anderson comes to the BayHawks via the teamís open tryout.
Kennedy (6-6, 215), a St. Johnís product averaged 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Following the BayHawks season, he was signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers for the balance of the NBA schedule.
Thompson (6-6, 210) averaged 13.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest during his rookie season following a successful collegiate career at Pepperdine. Like Kennedy, Thompson also so spent time with the Cavaliers during the 2011-12 season.
Daniels (7-0, 265) played 14 games in a BayHawks jersey, scoring 16.8 points and grabbing 8.6 rebounds per game before departing for South Korea last season.
Phillips (6-7, 235) was acquired mid-season from the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. For the year, he averaged 8.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest.
Baines (6-6, 220) averaged 15.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for Erie prior to suffering a season-ending wrist injury mid-way through the season.
Temple (6-6, 195) appeared in 24 games for Erie during the 2010-11 season, averaging 14.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. The veteran guard has spent time with the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, Milwaukee Bucks and Charlotte Bobcats in his NBA career.
Sims (6-10, 245) played four seasons for the Georgetown Hoyas, averaging 11.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks during his senior season.
Bellfield (6-2, 190) finished his career with the UNLV Runniní Rebels as the Mountain West Conferenceís all-time leader in assists with 582. During his senior season, he averaged 9.8 points and 5.4 assists per contest.
Anderson (6-4, 195) spent time with the Sioux Falls Skyforce last season following a four year collegiate career at Nebraska. As a member of the Skyforce, Anderson averaged 7.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
The remaining roster spots will be filled via the NBA Development League Draft which will take place on Friday, November 2 at 7 pm. The BayHawks will open training camp the following weekend and all 17 players will compete to make the final ten-man roster.
Erieís regular season opener will take place on Friday, November 23 in Fort Wayne, Indiana as the BayHawks square off against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
