BayHawks Pick 8th in 2013 D-League Draft

The 2013 NBA Development League Draft will take place on Friday, Nov. 1, via Cisco WebEx Meeting Center from the league’s New York headquarters, it was announced today. Through its relationship with Cisco, this marks the third consecutive year that the NBA D-League will be conducting its draft entirely through Cisco WebEx collaboration software. The BayHawks will select eighth in the first round after narrowly missing the playoffs last year. The 17-team draft will allow teams to build their roster from a list of players who have signed a contract with the league.

For the second consecutive year, draft selection spots will be assigned via reverse standings from the previous season. Prior to last year, all teams were entered into a lottery to determine draft order.

The Iowa Energy will select first of the league’s 17 teams in the eight-round draft while the Rio Grande Valley Vipers will select second, a pick the team secured by way of a trade with the Reno Bighorns. The Springfield Armor, Idaho Stampede and Texas Legends round out the top five selecting teams.

Erie has at least one pick in every round with the exception of the third, which was traded to the Iowa Energy in exchange for forward Terrence Jennings. The BayHawks hold the Sioux Falls Skyforce’s second round selection which was acquired in last season’s trade of Michael Thompson.

The first six rounds of the Draft are mandatory, while teams may opt not to select players in the seventh and eighth rounds. For a complete draft order, click here.

The team’s annual Season Ticket Holder and Sponsor Draft Party will take place at the Fox and Hound Bar and Grill (250 Millcreek Plaza Erie, PA 16565). The party is open exclusively to season ticket holders and corporate partners and will begin at 7:00 pm. All guests will be entered into drawings to win prize basketballs and other assorted BayHawks items. For the first time, the BayHawks basketball operations staff will be drafting live from the Draft Party location.

The BayHawks open the season on November 22 at the newly renovated Erie Insurance Arena against division rival Canton Charge. Season tickets and mini plans are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 814-790-5600.
