87ers Season Tip-Off - What You Need To Know

By: Max Rappaport

What are the 87ers?

The name 87ers was selected in recognition of Delaware's place in United States history, as it was the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution on December 7, 1787. The 87ers name also compliments its parent 76ers, whose name is a nod to the ratification of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776. The 87ers team will be nicknamed the Sevens, a term that will appear on the chest of the team's home and road uniforms.

Who's on the 87ers?

The Delaware 87ers are led by veteran head coach Rod Baker, who helped guide the Bakersfield Jam (NBADL) to a franchise-best record of 36-14 last season. He'll head up a roster of 12 players, including eight who were selected in the 2013 D-League Draft.

I'm intrigued! How can I watch them?

Two ways!

If the team is at home, you can come down the Bob Carpenter Center on the campus of the University of Delaware in Newark, where the team will play its home games starting on Sunday, December 8. Or, if the team is out of town or you can't make it to the arena, you can watch all the games live on YouTube free of charge!

The Sevens' season runs from November 23 until April 5 and consists of 50 regular season games (25 home, 25 road), not including playoffs.

What will their games be like?

The NBA Development League is considered by many to be the second-best professional basketball league in the world, right behind the NBA. In recent years, it's where players like Danny Green and Jeremy Lin have proven their value to NBA teams, turning successful D-League bids into opportunities to perform on the world's biggest basketball stage.

But the Sevens will not only exhibit an exciting product on the court. Their games will also offer fun experiences for the whole family off of it, as well. At every game, kids can partake in arts and crafts activities, play on inflatable amusements inside the arena, and enjoy world-class entertainment from face-painters to performers to members of the Sixers Dream Team and Flight Squad! After every game, members of the Sevens will sign autographs for fans.

You can follow the Sevens on Twitter and Instagram, like them on Facebook, and keep up to date with their latest news on Sevens.com.
