87ers to Partner with DE State Parks for Delaware Week of Service Projects on Saturday, April 12

IN CONJUNCTION WITH ONGOING PHILANTHROPIC EFFORTS THROUGH SEVENS STRONG AND THE FIFTH ANNUAL DELAWARE WEEK OF SERVICE WHICH COINCIDES WITH NATIONAL VOLUNTEERISM WEEK

NEWARK, DE.—April 10, 2014— The Delaware 87ers today announced their joint efforts with Delaware State Parks during the Fifth Annual Delaware Week of Service. In an effort to enhance safe outdoor recreation, 87ers staff members will join DE State Parks alongside of Philadelphia 76ers staff members, 2nd District Neighborhood Council, AmeriCorps, Brandywine Village Association, Browns Boys and Girls Club, Community Policing Unit of the Wilmington Police Department, Project Chance, Public Allies Delaware, Lowes Middletown Store and the State Office of Volunteerism to beautify two heavily used Delaware State Park maintained playgrounds.

“Few experiences are more rewarding than volunteering to clean up our environment,” said Secretary O’Mara. “The Governor’s Annual Week of Service is encouraging volunteerism, not just for a day but a lifetime of service to Delaware. Last year more than 5,000 citizens of all ages volunteered at a Delaware State Park – contributing more than 130,000 hours of service, making a tremendous difference in the safety, beauty and quality of our parks."

On Saturday, April 12 nearly 150 volunteers will spread and grade nearly four tractor trailer loads of environmentally-friendly playground mulch that will provide safe outdoor recreation areas at two of the state’s most heavily used playgrounds – Warner Elementary School and Shortlidge Elementary School.

“There is nothing more important in our jobs than being a part of the fabric of this community. Under SEVENS STRONG, each Sevens employee has pledged 87 hours of community service throughout the year. Our commitment to the community continues this Saturday with the Delaware Week of Service project,” said 87ers team President, Aaron Moszer.

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. along with light refreshments at Warner Elementary School located at 801 West 18th Street, Wilmington DE. Coffee and tea will be provided. Lunch will be provided by Pats Pizza at the conclusion of the project.
