BISMARCK, ND, February 23, 2009 – The two-time defending NBA Development League Central Division Champion Dakota Wizards announced today that they have acquired forward Romel Beck.
Beck was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2008 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas Where he averaged 10.4 points and 20.8 minutes in five games. The 6’8, 195 lb forward spent majority of the 2007-08 season overseas in Italy with Cimberio Varese averaging 12.3 ppg in 19 contests. Beck was then traded to Pierrel Capo d’Orlando where he averaged 17.5 rebounds in 15 games. Both teams are a part of the Italian Series “A” league.
“Beck is a great scorer”, said Wizards GM Tom Wagganer. “He is a promising player with great offensive skills, who runs the court well and can easily hit a 3 pointer. We are looking forward to seeing what he can do within our lineup.”
While attending the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, Beck averaged 13.2 ppg in 28 games as a senior. Beck’s junior season he averaged 14.2 ppg in 31 contests. Beck, also has been selected twice to represent the Mexican National Team, most recently averaging 17.8 ppg in eight games during the 2007 FIBA Tournament of the Americas.
Beck will make his first appearance for the Wizards on Thursday when they play in Erie. A jersey number has yet to have been selected.
