GREENVILLE, S.C., December 11, 2006 – The Chicago Bulls announced that 7-2 center Martynas Andriuskevicius (Mar-teen-es An-droo-SKAV-ih-chis) has been assigned to the Dakota Wizards of the NBA Development League (D-League). Dakota has been designated as the Bulls’ D-League affiliate for the 2006-07 season.
Andriuskevicius, a second-year center from Lithuania, has yet to appear in regular-season game with the Bulls. He was acquired on August 18 from Cleveland in exchange for guard Eddie Basden. As a member of the Cavaliers in 2005-06, Andriuskevicius was assigned to the D-League, playing 15 games with the Arkansas RimRockers and averaging 19.1 minutes, 7.0 points and 4.2 rebounds.
Drafted in the second round (44th overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic, he was traded to Cleveland for a second-round pick and cash on June 29, 2005. Andriuskevicius has played in six career NBA games, all with Cleveland, averaging 1.5 minutes and 0.7 rebounds.
“ Not only is he the first NBA player to be assigned to Bismarck, but he’s a big guy with long arms who will be a force in the middle,” said head coach Dave Joerger. “Marty is also a guy who is athletic and can hit the mid-ranged jumper which fits our style of play”.
The Dakota Wizards next match up is scheduled for December 14th and 15th against the Austin Toros who feature the return of 2002 first round NBA draft pick Jay Williams and former Boston Celtic great Dennis Johnson. Single, season and group tickets are still available by calling the Wizards front office at (701)-258-BALL or log onto www.dakotawizards.com for more information.
