Roy Rogers

Former NBA player and University of Alabama star Roy Rogers is in his first season as assistant coach of the Huntsville Flight. Rogers replaced Michael Born, who took a scouting position with the Portland Trailblazers of the NBA during the most recent offseason.

A first-round selection (22nd overall) of the Vancouver Grizzlies in the 1996 NBA Draft, Rogers played three seasons in the NBA for the Grizzlies, Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets. He averaged 4.8 points and 3.5 rebounds over his NBA career. Rogers was selected to play in the Schick Rookie Game in 1997 and set a Grizzlies record for blocked shots in a season with 163 his rookie year.

Rogers also played four seasons of professional basketball internationally (2000-04). He played in Russia, Italy, Greece and Poland and was an All-Russian first team selection in 2001.

An All-Southeastern Conference performer at Alabama (1992-96), Rogers established himself as a premier collegiate shot blocker. He tied the NCAA record for blocks in a game with 14 against Georgia on Feb. 10, 1996 and is second all-time in the Crimson Tide basketball record book for career blocked shots with 266.

Rogers, 31, and his wife Trish, a former varsity soccer player at Alabama, are the parents of one daughter. He earned a BS in Marketing Management from Alabama in 1995 and has completed work toward an additional degree in Finance from UA.
