Lowgators Assistant Coach Kelvin Upshaw

Kelvin Upshaw is entering his second season as the Lowgators assistant coach. His ability to relate to players and outstanding skill in teaching basketball helped North Charleston reach the NBDL Playoffs last season.

Upshaw played in 120 NBA games over a three-year span (1988-91) with the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks, averaging 5.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

His playing career also took him to Poland, Italy, Argentina and the Philippines, along with CBA stops in Quad City, Albany, Rapid City and Jacksonville. A first-round selection in the 1986 CBA Draft by the Jacksonville Jets, Upshaw was an All-Star and first-team All-CBA choice with Rapid City in 1987-88.

A two-time first-team All-WAC point guard at the University of Utah, Upshaw led the team in scoring, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and steals for two seasons. He was also named MVP and was a two-time team captain.

Previous coaching stops for Upshaw include being an assistant coach with the Quad City Thunder and assistant head coach with the LaCrosse Bobcats of the CBA.
