Two Charge Games Highlight CBS Sports Network Coverage of D-League Playoffs
CBS Sports Network returns to the hardwood to broadcast the 2013 NBA Development League postseason, having aired 10 regular season games. Coverage will span the three rounds of the NBA D-League playoffs, beginning when the fourth-seeded Santa Cruz Warriors travel to play the fifth-seeded Fort Wayne Mad Ants at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
CBS Sports Network coverage continues from Canton, Ohio, when the East Division champion Canton Charge hosts the seventh-seeded Tulsa 66ers on Friday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET. If the Canton-Tulsa series requires a third game, CBS Sports Network will conclude its first round coverage when it airs the decisive third game on tape delay on Sunday, April 14. Jason Knapp and Alaa Abdelnaby will call the action on CBS Sports Network for all three first-round games.
Eight NBA D-League teams (Austin Toros, Bakersfield Jam, Canton Charge, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Maine Red Claws, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Santa Cruz Warriors and Tulsa 66ers) qualified for the three-round postseason, including the three division winners (Bakersfield, Canton and Rio Grande Valley) and five wild card teams who advanced to the postseason based on their regular season records.
Fort Wayne, Maine and Santa Cruz are all making their first appearances in the NBA D-League postseason, while Austin looks to defend its 2012 NBA D-League Championship. Bakersfield, Canton, Rio Grande Valley, and Tulsa all return to NBA D-League playoff competition.
Utilizing a unique pick-your-opponent format for the fourth consecutive season, the three division winners had the opportunity to select their first round opponent among the four wild card teams with the worst regular season records. The team with the worse regular season record will host Game 1 of each of the best-of-three playoff series and the team with the better regular season record will host Games 2 and 3, if necessary.
Dates and times for the best-of-three semifinals have yet to be determined and will be announced when they are available. The semifinals and finals will follow the same format as the first round. A broadcast schedule for the subsequent series will be announced as it is finalized, while the additional first round games can be seen on the League’s YouTube channel.
